The Essence of Dalcroze
Lisa Parker and Siân Davies
'Let the music teach the music!'
'Lead the student to discover the music.'
'Create a musical environment and let your teaching seemingly unfold!'
'Use the full body to explore every aspect and nuance of music, of rhythm of shape and sound'
'Develop and refine the inner hearing through training the wole being'
'Expand musical awareness and expression through becoming the music'
'Be inspired by and embellish your teaching with stimuli from other art forms'
Finally and very importantly:
Dalcroze himself did not separate his teaching from his performing and composing. Although he has perhaps become most well known for his pedagogical work he inspired and collaborated with some of the leading exponents of Modern Dance and Theatre. He performed and conducted all over Europe and influenced theatre and choreography of the early 20thCentury. Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring' is choreographed through Eurhythmics.
